Climate-neutral Hakro collection from 2022

Hakro is once again taking a pioneering role – in terms of sustainability – and will make its entire collection climate-neutral from January 1, 2022. To achieve this, Hakro avoids and reduces CO2 emissions worldwide and offsets them where avoidance is not currently possible. As the first corporate wear provider, Hakro is thus completely climate-neutral – from raw materials to delivery.

“Climate change is one of the greatest threats of our time, and the textile industry contributes significantly to this development,” says HAKRO Managing Director Carmen Kroll. “Our goal must be to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. At HAKRO, we want to prove that this is possible and are looking for solutions that truly make a difference. Making our entire collection climate-neutral is the next logical step in our comprehensive climate protection strategy, and I am proud that we have decided to do so.”

HAKRO has been committed to sustainability and environmental protection . To achieve climate neutrality for its collection, HAKRO first calculates the CO2 footprint all products throughout the entire supply chain. This is done using the "cradle-to-customer plus waste" approach, meaning that all emissions released during raw materials, transport, manufacturing, packaging, recycling, and disposal at the end of a product's life cycle are taken into account. HAKRO receives support in this endeavor from ClimatePartner, the leading provider of climate protection solutions for businesses . HAKRO has been working with ClimatePartner since 2017.

“This process is far from over for us,” says Jochen Schmidt, Head of Quality, Values & Sustainability at HAKRO. “For us, avoidance and reduction always take precedence over compensation—and at the same time, compensation is a necessary intermediate step on the long road to achieving this. Our textile supply chains are complex, and implementing reduction measures takes time.” By collecting primary data even more precisely, we aim to identify even more emission hotspots in the future and reduce them through direct interventions.

HAKRO has been climate-neutral at its own site in Schrozberg since 2017. This is thanks in part to self-sufficiency in green electricity, a comprehensive energy management system with battery storage, and a combined heat and power plant operated with biogas.

Hakro has been around since 1969.
